This Territory Manager for a National Family of Window & Door Brands Got His Start in the Trades Out of Necessity, But He Wouldn’t Change a Thing!

Jun 4, 2019 | Workforce Development

Damon Keeler, Territory Manager for Marvin Doors & Windows, shares his story. How his starter job at a lumber company led to a successful career and why he’s passionate about changing the perception about careers in the skilled trades.

As an 18-year-old with a baby girl on the way, Damon Keeler needed a full-time job with a steady paycheck. 84 Lumber hired Damon right out of high school and before long, he fell in love with building.

If you could do it over again, would you choose college or a career in the trades?

Knowing what I know now, there is nothing wrong with a college education, but through my experience in the trades, practical knowledge, and life skills, I would not change my path.

What do you love about your career?

I love the opportunity to meet new people every day, and through my experiences in the industry, help create solutions for them.

What would you say to a student who is unsure about their future?

EXPERIMENT and don’t be afraid to work hard and get your hands dirty. You may find that you have never felt so rewarded on both a personal and professional level.

What does WorkforceNOW mean to you?

WorkforceNow not only aligns with my personal interest in proving how dynamic and interesting the trade professions are, but it also aligns with a larger nationwide trade profession campaign with Marvin Windows & Doors.

The York Builders Association is dedicated to being a catalyst for empowering students and others in the community through education and resources that focus on rewarding opportunities in the skilled trades. To learn more about our WorkforceNOW initiatives, visit us online.
