Damon Keeler, Territory Manager for Marvin Doors & Windows, shares his story. How his starter job at a lumber company led to a successful career and why hes passionate about changing the perception about careers in the skilled trades.
As an 18-year-old with a baby girl on the way, Damon Keeler needed a full-time job with a steady paycheck. 84 Lumber hired Damon right out of high school and before long, he fell in love with building.
If you could do it over again, would you choose college or a career in the trades?
Knowing what I know now, there is nothing wrong with a college education, but through my experience in the trades, practical knowledge, and life skills, I would not change my path.
What do you love about your career?
I love the opportunity to meet new people every day, and through my experiences in the industry, help create solutions for them.
What would you say to a student who is unsure about their future?
EXPERIMENT and dont be afraid to work hard and get your hands dirty. You may find that you have never felt so rewarded on both a personal and professional level.
