York Builders Association To Host Training On New Building Codes

Jun 28, 2018 | Announcements, Events

YORK, PA – For the first time in nearly a decade, new construction codes will go into effect in Pennsylvania on October 1, 2018. As a result of the PA Uniform Construction Code (UCC) Review and Advisory Council’s (RAC) report submitted to the Department of Labor and Industry on May 1, the majority of provisions contained in the 2015 International Code Council (CC) Model Codes will be adopted. In conjunction with the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center (PHRC), the York Builders Association will host a training session on July 26 to help builders prepare for and understand the changes.

Topics included in the training will cover upcoming changes to the PA UCC; which changes will be immediately enforceable; overview of code provisions amended as part of the RAC review process; and where to go for more information.

The changes will apply to things such as air tightness requirements and blower door testing, mechanical ventilation, framing requirements with decks, and more.

“We take great pride in being York County’s resource for the building industry and the fact that our members are well-trained and up-to-date on the latest building standards,” said YBA President Jason Barshinger. “It is critical that we not waste any time in ensuring that local builders have access to the proper updates. While some of the changes are administrative, some may warrant changes in current building practices and design techniques.”

The training will be conducted by PHRC and held at YBA member location Stewart & Tate Construction, 950 Smile Way, York on July 26 from 3-5 p.m. The session is open to both members and non-members. Learn more about registering for this training.
