The York Builders Association (YBA) is proud to announce that Nicholas Sabold, owner of Sabold Construction and Construction Trades Instructor at the York County School of Technology, has been awarded the 2025 Mack Smith Award, one of the Association’s highest honors.
Presented annually as part of the PEAK Achievement Awards, the Mack Smith Award recognizes a dedicated individual who exemplifies leadership, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to the York Builders Association, the building industry, and the broader community.
A member of YBA since 2006, Nick has served the Association in many capacities over the years—including as 2020 President, Executive Committee member, Board Director, and active contributor to several key committees, including the Home & Garden Show and Finance Advisory Committees. He has also served as a Director for the Pennsylvania Builders Association and remains deeply involved in education and workforce development through his leadership in the NAHB Student Chapter and as a driving force behind the YBA Workforce NOW Foundation initiatives.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nick is a long-time volunteer firefighter and trustee at the Yoe Fire Company. He also serves as an instructor in the YBA Workforce NOW Foundation’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program and leads the NAHB Student Chapter and competitions at York County School of Technology, helping to prepare the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
“Nick is someone who leads by example—in his business, his teaching, and his service to others,” said YBA Executive Vice President Laurie Lourie. “Whether he’s mentoring students, advocating for workforce programs, serving on a committee, or responding to a fire call in the middle of the night, Nick brings heart, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to everything he does. He truly reflects the spirit of the Mack Smith Award.”
Nick’s journey in the trades began early. At 14, he spent summers working for his uncle at Bill Sabold Building & Remodeling. After graduating from the York County School of Technology with a focus in carpentry, Nick launched Sabold Construction and steadily built a respected business rooted in quality craftsmanship and community care.
“Being part of this industry has given me so much,” said Sabold. “I’m honored to receive the Mack Smith Award, and I’m proud to play a small part in helping future trades people find their path and purpose—just like I did.”
Named in honor of charter member Mack Smith, this award celebrates individuals who demonstrate integrity, mentorship, dedication, and compassion in service to the building industry and the York community. Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by a committee of industry professionals.
