At a recent Parade meeting in the Hanover Area, member and veteran builder Paul Burkentine, Burkentine & Sons Builders made an important statement, competition is good. He understands that by joining together through the Parade everyone wins. Thats why he is stepping up as a leader to expand the Parade in Hanover. He and his son, Mike, have brought in Ryan Homes with two entries. Parade of Homes Chair, Nick Bair from Schmuck Lumber Co says, Its very exciting for the Association to see this expansion in the Hanover area.
What projects do you have from the past two years that fit within proximity of a Hanover/York Parade of Homes route?
Many of our members might be tempted to think they don’t have the time to commit to this project. Mike Landis of Landis Custom Cabinetry & Woodworking says it best, You can have a huge shiny red toolbox in your garage full of all of the latest and greatest tools available, BUT if you never open the drawers and use them what good are they? The same holds true to using the tools available through the York Builders Association. If youre a member and not participating you are missing out. I participated in the 2012 Parade of Homes and had well over 200 people walk through my project. One year later it has yielded over $150,000 in gross sales. I also participated in the February Builders show at the York Fairgrounds and only 8 short months later it has yielded 18 contracts and almost $200,000 in gross sales. My investment for both events was negligible in comparison to the NET results.”
Landis continued, “As the saying goes you only get out what you are willing to put in. I also just participated in the 2013 Parade of Homes two short weeks ago and I already have 4 appointments to look at projects. Appointments that would probably be with OTHER Parade participants had I chosen not to participate!”
So just a word of advice….OPEN the drawers on that shiny red toolbox and use the tools that are available to you. You’ll be surprised how much easier it makes your job.
Its time to open the Parade of Homes entry form. Dont let this tool go unused. Parade Staff Liaison, Cathy Warner, shares that she has heard the statement, Were too busy to do the Parade. She issues this challenge, If you dont keep your name in front of people, will you continue to stay busy?
