There’s been a surge of scammers and phony offers in the last few years offering to sell mailing lists of an association’s members or people who have attended or exhibited at events and trade shows.
Typically, individuals receive an email solicitation with an offer to acquire a list of event attendees or vendor email addresses. Each year as the York Home & Garden Show approaches, we hear from York Builders Association members that they have received e-mails asking if they would be interested in acquiring an email list for the attendees/visitors/registrations of the York Builders Association’s Home and Garden Show.
These solicitations are scams. The senders do NOT represent YBA or any legitimate organization and do NOT have access to the official YBA Home & Garden Show exhibitor or attendee list.
We take the privacy of our members and our event attendees and exhibitors very seriously, and we have a policy governing the use and disclosure of our e-mail lists.
Unfortunately, these scams are very common. If you do get such a solicitation, we encourage you to mark it as spam and hit “delete.”
