July 18 - Land Development Discussion Group

The Land Development Discussion Group meeting series focuses on current land development issues in our area.

This discussion will provide members with an update on the most recent developments with the DEP Chesapeake Bay Strategy, new permits, litigation, sewer capacity, federal developments, and public funding resources. The panel is expected to include a private business representative and at least one municipal representative to balance the discussion. Questions, comments, and discussion are encouraged.

August 13 - 26th Annual Member Golf Tournament

Join the many members who come out to play a round at our 26th Annual Member Golf Tournament. We will, again, be destined to Bridges and Briarwood for the tournament with dinner following the tournament at the Briarwood Golf Course pavilion. Back by popular demand, we will be having the ice cream sundae bar. It is a wonderful way to cool off after a hot day in the sun! Come share in the camaraderie with your fellow members!

August 14 - UCC Coalition

The YCBA is devoted to keeping members informed and current regarding changes to the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Since the adoption of a state-wide building code, the way homes are designed, built, and inspected has radically changed. The UCC Coalition was formed to keep an open line of communication between our builder members and municipal officials.

The Coalition will be a presentation on Green Building. The session will begin defining the term "green" and providing a brief explanation and comparision of the major green building programs available to builders and remodelers in PA. Green building concepts, techniques and materials will then be introduced.

September 17 - First Aid Training

If you were hurt on the job, would the guy next to you know what to do? Having personnel trained in proper first aid can be the difference between a lost time job accident and the person returning quickly to work. This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Participants Receive: Certificate valid for three years, American Red Cross First Aid Skill Card, Program Participant's Booklet, and First Aid Training Kit

Training provided by the American Red Cross York County Chapter

October 27 - October 28 - Green Building for Building Professionals

Learn how green homes provide buyers with lower energy costs and higher value. This two-day course for building professionals discusses strategies for incorporating green building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. You will learn how green homes provide buyers lower maintenance, better indoor air quality, and better long-term value. Techniques are also discussed for competitively differentiating your home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency.

As a graduate of this course, you will be able to: employ resource-efficient materials to achieve comfortable, safe, and sustainable buildings while achieving indoor air quality; implement indoor and outdoor water conservation practices; consider green building objectives in a remodeling project; and apply successful business management, marketing, and sales strategies to sell green.

Who should attend: Builders, Remodelers, Architects, Real Estate Agents, Subcontractors/Specialty Trades, and Suppliers

Become a Certified Green Professional: Take Business Management for Building Professionals on November 11th, this class, and have two years construction experience to complete the requirements to become a Certified Green Professional through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB.)

November 5 - Adult CPR Training

Provide yourself and your employees with the skills needed to recognize and provide basic care on the jobsite until advanced medical help can take over. Participants will learn how to recognize and handle an emergency, how to check the scene for safety and the victim for consciousness, when and how to move a victim from a dangerous scene, when to call and how to interact with the emergency medical services (EMS) system, why and how to apply basic precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission during and after providing care, how to prioritize care for life-threatening injuries or sudden illness, how to check a conscious victim for life and non-life threatening conditions, how to recognize the signals of a heart attack and how to give care, how to care for a victim who is having a breathing emergency, and how to give CPR to an adult.
Participants Receive: Certificate valid for one year, American Red Cross CPR Program participant's booklet, American Red Cross CPR skills card, and pocket mask.

November 11 - Business Management for Building Professionals

Learn the management skills that give industry leaders the edge. This course will give you a solid foundation in those best bsuiness practices so valuable to smaller businesses: planning, organizing, staffing/directing, and controlling. By using case studies and sample forms, your instructor gives you practical and applicable tools for management success.

As a graduate of this course, you will be able to: discuss common business challenges and learn practical tips and tools to overcome them; explain the three basic functional areas within a company; list the five main tools used to improve a business; apply each of the five Ps to the three functional areas of business; identify methods of recruiting, interviewing, training, and retaining quality personnel.
